Selector Lever Cable, Basic Setting
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Socket and key (T40031)
Work Procedure
- Remove the cover for the shift mechanism. Refer to => [ Shift Mechanism Cover ] Shift Mechanism Cover.
• There is a distinction between vehicles with a "PRND" shift mechanism (up to model year 2004) and vehicles with a "PRNDS" shift mechanism (as of model year 2005).
Vehicles With a "PRND" Shift Mechanism
- Place the selector lever in the "D" position.
• Before performing the basic setting, make sure that the clamping screw is tightened. It is accessible through the hole in the shift mechanism in the "D" position using the socket and key ( T40031).
- Tighten the clamping screw in this position using the socket and key (T40031) (13 Nm).
Vehicles With a "PRNDS" Shift Mechanism
- Place the selector lever in the "S" position.
• Before performing the basic setting, make sure that the clamping screw is tightened. It is accessible through the hole in the shift mechanism in the "S" position using the socket and key ( T40031).
- Tighten the clamping screw in this position using the socket and key (T40031) (13 Nm).
Continuation for All
- Place the selector lever in the "P" position.
- Loosen the quick release screws - 2 - and - 3 - and remove the rear noise insulation.
- Remove the support bracket bolt - 1 - and bracket for the selector lever cable.
• Make sure the selector lever is in the "P" position.
- Push the lever for the selector shaft - 2 - at the transmission completely toward the rear until the parking lock engages.
• When the parking lock is engaged, it must not be possible to turn both front wheels in one direction at the same time.
- Make sure that the selector lever cable has been routed free of kinks and tension.
- Make sure that the selector lever cable - 5 - is secured with nuts - 6 - to the support bracket - 4 - (13 Nm).
- Install the support bracket for the selector lever cable tightly to bracket - 1 -.
- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable Adjusting ] Adjustments.
