Rear Side Airbag, Fixed Backrest

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System ( VAS 5051 A)





Closing pliers (VAS 6273)

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.





1 Zip tie

2 Driver-Side and Passenger-Side Rear Side Airbags

Removal:

- Disconnect the battery ground (GND) strap.

- Remove rear bench seat: through October 2004, refer to => [ Bench Seat, through October 2004 ] Rear Seats; from November 2004 => [ Bench Seat, from November 2004 ] Rear Seats.

- Remove rear seat backrest => [ Rear Seat Backrest, Fixed ] Rear Seats.

- Using a screwdriver, pry out side clamping strips - 3 -.

- Use a screwdriver to pry out the lower clamping strip - 9 -.

- Pull the cover - 8 - down over the bracket - 7 -.

- Turn back cover in area of side airbag - 2 -.

- Unzip - 1 - protective cover of side airbag - 4 -.

- Open securing clip on connector for side airbag - 5 - and disconnect connector.

- Fold back cover and cushion in area of side airbag - 2 - far enough until rear side of side airbag is accessible.

- Remove nuts - 6 - (Qty. 2).

- Remove side airbag - 2 -.

Installing:

- Install side airbag - 2 - in reverse order of removal.

- Fasten zip - 1 - at protective cover for side airbag - 4 -, using closing pliers (VAS 6273).

- Switch on ignition.

CAUTION!
No one should be in vehicle when connecting battery.

- Connect the battery ground (GND) strap.

Follow safety measures after connecting battery.

If the Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ( K75) shows a malfunction after assembly, DTC memory must be checked with Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System ( VAS 5051 A), cleared and then rechecked.
