Supersedes Technical Bulletin Group 15 number 06-02 dated August 4, 2006 due to updated information.





Affected Vehicles

Technical Background





The condition can be caused by one or more jammed Camshaft Adjustment Solenoid Valve(s) (N205 / N208 / N318 / N319). This may be due to contamination (e.g. debris) of the Hydraulic Mechanism of the Solenoid Valve(s).

Service





^ Remove the affected Camshaft Adjustment Solenoid Valve(s).

^ Thoroughly inspect the Hydraulic Mechanism of the Solenoid Valve(s) and its mounting location in the cylinder head for any debris.

If there is any debris inside the Hydraulic Mechanism:

^ Replace affected Solenoid Valve(s) and clean out its mounting location in the cylinder head thoroughly.

^ DO NOT replace the Camshaft Adjusters!

If there is no debris present inside the Hydraulic Mechanism:

^ Check the correct function of the Camshaft Position Sensor(s) (G40/G163/G300/G301) of the affected camshaft(s) with Guided Fault Finding.

^ Follow Guided Fault Finding for further Diagnosis.
