Condition
The adaptive lighting system functions properly otherwise.
Supersedes Technical Bulletin Group 94 number 05-07 dated December 23, 2005 due to updated Service and Warranty procedures. (2011041/1)
^ Headlight range control warning is ON in driver information display. After cycling the ignition, warning symbol is OFF again.
^ A sporadic DTC (01771 -- Control module for vertical headlight aim control system -J431- implausible signal) is set in the Headlight Range Control Module.
Technical Background
Communication between Headlight Range Control Module and both Headlight Power Output Stages is briefly interrupted.
Production Solution
New Control Module Part No: 4F0 907 357E with updated software 4F0 910 357E is installed. Always check with your Parts Dept. for the latest parts information.
Service
Check, and if necessary update software of Headlight Range Control Module as follows:
Parts replacement is not permitted replaced parts will be redebited
Update - Programming procedure, checking software level
^ Select Vehicle Self Diagnosis >> 55 - Automatic vertical headlight aim control.
Similar screen appears.
^ Check suffix following software part number (arrow).
^ If software level suffix is already "E", DO NOT continue with this bulletin. Update - Programming is rot necessary. Further diagnosis is required for condition.
^ If the hardware part number is 4F0 907 357 or 4F0 907 357A the module cannot be flashed and must be replaced. DO NOT continue with this bulletin.
^ If software level suffix is "C", perform Update - Programming procedure as follows:

^ Select Vehicle Self Diagnosis >> 55 - Automatic vertical headlight aim control >> Update Programming (Update CD 4F0 906 961 N must be in the disk drive of the diagnostic tester).
^ After the forward arrow is pressed the Software will begin to load. DO NOT interrupt vehicle or tester during process.
^ After several minutes, download is complete and the ignition must be cycled. There will be DTC's for "Control unit not coded" and "no or incorrect basic setting". Exit Vehicle Self Diagnosis mode.
Update - Programming procedure, performing coding and basic settings.
^ Select Guided Functions >> 55 - Dynamic Headlight Range Control with AFS >> J431 - Headlight Range Ctrl. Mo. coding to code the module and perform basic settings.
