ATF Leakage between Engine and Transmission
ATF Leakage between Engine and Transmission
• Possible damage:
The ATF pump corroded resulting in increased wear and chafing on the torque converter hub, heavy ATF leakage.
• Required actions:
- Make sure that no ATF escapes at oil leak inspection opening - arrow - after removing transmission. In this case, the final drive/transmission housing seal would be faulty.
- Replace final drive/transmission housing seal if necessary. Refer to => [ Final Drive/Transmission Housing Seal ] Final Drive/Transmission Housing Seal.
- Check brass sleeve - arrow - for signs of wear and seizing.
- Check hub - arrow - of torque converter for wear and corrosion.
If corrosion is detected:
- Replace ATF pump and torque converter.
- If there is heavy soiling => [ Evaluating Wear by ATF ] Evaluating Wear by ATF, disassemble and clean transmission.
- Replace valve body => [ Valve Body ] Valve Body.
- Check whether alignment sleeve - arrow - for torque converter is installed in crankshaft. Refer to => Engine Mechanical Engine
- Check whether both alignment sleeves - A - are inserted in cylinder block.
- Check alignment sleeves for deformation and holes in transmission flange for damage.
