Clutch with SAC Pressure Plate
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Counter hold tool (10 - 201)
• Centering mandrel (3176)
• Grease for clutch plate splines (G 000 100 )
- Attach counter hold tool (10 - 201) before loosening bolts.
To prevent the pressure plate from becoming warped during removal (causes clutch grab when driving off), always adhere to the following procedure when unscrewing the pressure plate:
- Loosen all six bolts consecutively in a clockwise direction and in steps of 90 degrees (1/4 turn) until the pressure plate is released.
Installing
• Before reinstalling the Self Adjusting Clutch (SAC) pressure plate check that it is not warped. Refer to => [ Check SAC pressure plate for warpage, cracks

• When only the clutch plate is replaced, the adjuster ring in the SAC pressure plate has to be reset before assembly. Refer to => [ SAC Clutch Pressure Plate Adjuster Ring Adjusting ] Adjustments.
• Installation position of clutch plate: coil springs (damper assembly) or marking "Getriebeseite" point toward pressure plate and transmission.
- Use centering mandrel ( 3176) to centralize clutch plate.
- Reposition counter hold tool (10 - 201) to tighten bolts.
To prevent the pressure plate from becoming warped during installation (causes clutch grab when driving off), always adhere to the following procedure when installing the pressure plate:
- Position pressure plate on dowel pins.
- Install in all 6 bolts evenly by hand until bolt heads make contact with pressure plate.
- Tighten all six bolts consecutively in a clockwise direction and in steps of 90 degrees (1/4 turn) until the housing makes contact with flywheel.
- Tighten all 6 bolts to a final specification of 22 Nm consecutively in a clockwise direction.
