09LA Automatic Transmission






Electrical and Electronic Component Locations

Data Link Connector (DLC)





Location: Diagnostic connection is located beneath knee bolster on left of steering wheel.

The following listed components can be tested in the "Guided fault finding" with the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system (VAS 5051B).

Mechatronic





Location: The mechatronic unit is bolted to the bottom of the transmission and is covered by the transmission oil pan.

The mechatronic unit incorporates the hydraulic control, the Transmission Control Module (TCM), the multi function Transmission Range (TR) switch and the sensors and actuators as a complete synchronized unit. Included are:

Transmission control module (J217)

Multi function transmission range switch (F125)

Transmission input speed (RPM) sensor (G182)

Transmission output speed (RPM) sensor (G195)

The "mechatronic" unit can only be replaced as a complete unit.

All components mentioned are tested by On Board Diagnostics (OBD).

Transmission Wiring Harness





Location: The wiring harness - A - with connector - C - is attached to the mechatronic unit - B -.

Transmission Range (TR) Display (Y6)





Location: Integrated in the instrument cluster.

The Transmission Range (TR) display (Y6) can only be replaced together with instrument cluster.

Selector Lever Transmission Range (TR) Position Display (Y26)





Location: The selector lever Transmission Range (TR) position display (Y26) - item 1 - is clipped into the center console.

Selector lever range position display removing and installing:

Kick Down Switch (F8)





A specific value from the Throttle Position (TP) sensor (G79) and the accelerator pedal position sensor 2 (G185) are stored in the Engine Control Module (ECM).

Location: The accelerator pedal position sensors are integrated inside the accelerator pedal module - arrow -.

If the accelerator pedal sensor is defective, replace the accelerator pedal module.

Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module (J587) with Tiptronic Switch (F189) - Vehicles through 11.05





Location: The selector lever sensor system control module (J587) with Tiptronic switch (F189) is mounted to the shift mechanism - arrows - as a unit - 1 -.

Location: The selector lever sensor system control module (J587) with Tiptronic switch (F189) is clipped onto the shift mechanism - arrows - as a unit - 2 -.

Shift Lock Solenoid (N110) -Vehicles through 11.05





Location: The shift lock solenoid (N110) - 1 - is clipped onto the shift mechanism.

Shift Lock Solenoid (N110) - Vehicles from 11.2005





Location: The shift lock solenoid (N110) - 1 - is clipped onto the shift mechanism.

Transmission Park Selector Switch (F305) - Vehicles through 11.05





Location: The transmission park selector switch (F305), which consists of 2 micro-switches - 1 - and - 2 - and is mounted on the right side of the selector mechanism.

Transmission Park Selector Switch (F305) - Vehicles from 11.05





Installation Position: The transmission park selector switch (F305) consists of two micro-switches - 1 - and - 2 - and is installed on the plate - B - on the shift lock solenoid (N110) - A -.

The transmission park selector switch (F305) can only be replaced together with the shift lock solenoid (N110). Refer to => [ Selector Lever Lock Solenoid ] Selector Lever Lock Solenoid.
