Transmission Park Selector Switch

The transmission park selector switch (F305) consists of two micro-switches. The two micro-switches create the signal that the electronic ignition key removal lock needs to release the key when only in the "P" position.

The first switch is closed when the shift lock solenoid (N110) is not active in the "P" position (with the brake pedal not pressed) and also the selector lever manual release below the ashtray is not actuated.

The second switch is closed when the button on selector lever handle is not actuated in the "P" position.

The following points must be observed before replacing the transmission park selector switch (F305):

1. Both switches are switched electrically in sequence, that is, both switches must be closed for the ignition key to be removed. The switches can be checked using the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051B) under "Guided Fault Finding". After performing tests on the vehicle system, you must select test program "F305 - Gear selector position P switch" via function/component selection (drive/automatic transmission 09L / 01 - On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems/02 - Transmission Electronics/Electrical components).

2. An electrical test on the switch is also possible. If a continuity test is performed with a multi-meter, note that in this case, there is a resistance value of approximately 470 Ohm when both switches are closed.

Removing

- Remove the selector mechanism. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism ] Selector Mechanism.

- Remove the screws - arrows - and remove the selector lever sensor system control module (J587) with Tiptronic switch (F189).





- Release connector - D - and remove from the shift lock solenoid (N110).





- Release connector - E - and remove upward.

- Press tab - C - in direction of - 1 -.

- Remove micro-switch - B - in direction of - 2 -.

- Disengage the electrical wire at the selector mechanism - A -.

- Remove the retaining clips - A - on both sides of the selector mechanism.





- Press the parking lock button - C - down and hold.

- Remove the selector rod - B - upward and shift the selector lever in direction of - arrow - until it engages in selector lever position "S".

- Using a screwdriver, push the retaining pin - A - forward through the rear retaining clip opening.





The retaining pins - A - must not be removed. They must only be pressed forward far enough so the micro-switch - B - can be removed.

- Remove the micro-switch - B - forward.

- Disengage the electrical wire from tab - C - and remove the micro-switch from the shift mechanism.

Installing





Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

- Guide the micro-switch on the longer electrical wire into the opening under the parking lock button in the selector mechanism.

- Insert the micro-switch - B - into the shift gate.

The micro-switch must lie flush on all sides.

- Engage the electrical line in tab - C -.

- With a screwdriver, push the retaining pin - A - all the way in.

The retaining pins - A - secure the micro-switch - B - in the shift gate.

The ignition key removal lock will not function correctly if the micro-switch is not inserted correctly or properly secured.

- Secure the electrical wire - A - at the selector mechanism according to the illustration.





- Install the micro-switch - B -.

- Position connector - D - on the shift lock solenoid (N110).

- Engage the connector - E - from above.

- Install the retaining clips - A - on both sides of the selector mechanism.





- Install the selector lever sensor system control module (J587) with Tiptronic switch (F189). Refer to => [ Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module with Tiptronic Switch ] Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module with Tiptronic Switch.

- Install the selector mechanism. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism ] Selector Mechanism.
