Transmission, Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

- Follow repair instructions, refer to => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.

When assembling, use self-locking nuts and bolts.

Replace bolts which have a specified tightening angle, as well as shaft seals and gaskets.

Heat shield sleeves are to be re-installed in the same position.

The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory.

All cable ties are to be re-installed in the same position.

- Before installing the transmission, make sure the alignment sleeves - A - are correctly positioned on the cylinder block; if necessary, install.

- Before rebuilding the transmission, nuts from the catalytic converter with right front muffler to the exhaust manifold - 1, 2, and 3 - should be removed.

The catalytic converter with right front muffler does not require rebuilding due to the poor accessibility of the heated oxygen sensor, remove only over the studs so that the seals can be replaced.

- Replace seals between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter with right front muffler.

- Place the catalytic converter with right front muffler on the exhaust manifold and loosely screw on the nuts - 1, 2 and 3 -.

- If an intermediate plate between engine and transmission is installed, re-install it in the same position.

- Before connecting the engine and transmission, turn torque converter and engine drive plate so that one hole and one threaded hole are at the level of the removed starter opening.

- Ensure no lines are kinked when sliding engine and transmission together.

- Attach the transmission to the engine.

The tightening specifications apply only to lightly greased, oiled, phosphated or blackened nuts and bolts.

Additional lubricant such as engine or gear oil may be used, but do not use lubricants that contain graphite.

Do not use any ungreased parts.

Tightening specification tolerance: 15%.

- Replace seals between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter with left front muffler.

- Install the catalytic converter with left and right front muffler.

- Insert the guide pin on (T40058) so that large diameter - arrow 1 - faces toward engine. The small diameter - arrow 2 - faces the adapter.

- Counter hold the crankshaft with the (T40058) and loosen the torque converter bolts.

Ignore - arrow -.

- Always use new, original bolts to secure the torque converter to the drive plate.

- Install the six bolts - arrows - for the torque converter into the opening in the starter hand-tight (turn the crankshaft 1/3 turn each time).

- Tighten the bolts for the torque converter to the tightening specification (turn the crankshaft 1/3 turn each time).

- Install starter.

Tag the ATF cooling hoses to avoid mix-ups when re-installing. Refer to => [ ATF Cooling Lines Overview ] Service and Repair.

- Connect the ATF cooling hoses on the ATF cooler and remove the (3094).

- Connect the electrical connector on the transmission by attaching the rotational fastener and swiveling it counter-clockwise, opposite to the - arrow - direction.

- Bolt the engine speed sensor (G28) - arrow. - to the transmission.

- Install the rear transmission supports with transmission mounts. Refer to => [ Rear Transmission Support and Transmission Mount ] Rear Transmission Support and Transmission Mount.

- Install the front transmission supports with transmission mounts. Refer to => [ Front Transmission Support and Transmission Mount ] Front Transmission Support and Transmission Mount.

If the transmission is being replaced, the transmission supports of the old transmission must be fitted to the new one.

- Install the subframe.

- Install the bolts - arrow - for the strut mount on the engine.

- Attach the driveshaft to the transmission.

- Attach the drive axles to the flange shafts.

- Electrical connections and transfer

- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Checking and Adjusting ] Procedures.

- Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to => [ Gear Oil Level in Transmission, Transmissions with Combined Oil Systems, Checking ] Gear Oil Level In Transmission, Transmissions With Combined Oil Systems, Checking.

- Install the exhaust system without tension.

- Heed appropriate instructions for work to be performed following battery connection.

- Fill coolant.

- Check the ATF level. Refer to => [ ATF Level, Checking ] ATF Level, Checking.

- Perform vehicle measurements.
