Affected Vehicles
RVU - Replacement of Trunk Lid Hinges (IW)
Condition
This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect for 15 months from the date of publication. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.
Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria.
1. Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the IW code in the ElsaWeb View Campaign inquiry screen on the day of repair.
2. Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.
3. Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.
Procedure must also be performed on applicable vehicles in Dealer inventory.
This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle. The automatic trunk lid opening system is not operating normally. It interrupts during the opening/closing process.
Technical Background
On Audi A8 vehicles manufactured within a specific period, trunk lid hinges may become stiff.

Service
Tip: Before beginning the repair, check whether the vehicle is also affected by Required Vehicle Update IX - Replacement of Trunk Lid Drive Unit. If this is the case, ensure that the work required for RVU IW and IX is performed at the same time.
1. Open the trunk lid.
2. Perform a visual inspection of the trunk hinges. There are two variations of trunk lid hinges:
^ A - Version with flat rivet
^ B - Version with indented rivet
3. If the trunk lid hinges are version B, no further action is required. If the trunk lid hinges are Version A, they must be replaced.
4. Replace trunk lid hinges. Follow directions in ElsaWeb, General body repairs, exterior; Repair group 55; Removing and installing trunk lid hinge."
5. Oil hinge joints with universal spray lubricant G 000 115 A2.
6. Perform a function check. Using the power drive, completely open and close the trunk lid 10 times.
Tip: The system will calibrate itself automatically during the first three operations. If the trunk lid does not open and close by itself, assist by pushing lightly by hand.
