Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Combination Valve, Checking Function and for Leaks

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hand vacuum pump (VAG 1390)

Test Prerequisites

Vacuum lines and hose connections free of leaks.

Vacuum lines not plugged.

Test Sequence

- Remove the engine cover - 1 - upward.





- Disconnect the vacuum hose - arrow - from the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) combination valve to be checked.





- Connect the (VAG 1390) to the vacuum hose for the AIR combination valve to be checked.

Illustration shows the engine from the rear.

Left AIR combination valve is shown in the illustration.

- Remove the noise insulation fasteners - 1 - and noise insulation.





- Disconnect the pressure hose - 2 - from the AIR pump motor (V101) and blow into it with light pressure (do not use pressurized air).





Both AIR combination valves must be closed, it must not be possible to blow through the hose.

- Operate the (VAG 1390).

The relevant AIR combination valve must open, it must not be possible to blow through

If the relevant AIR combination valve does not open:

- Replace the AIR combination valve, refer to one of the following:

Left side, refer to => [ Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Combination Valve ] Left Side Components.

Right side, refer to => [ Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Combination Valve ] Right Side Components.
