1 23 Nm
2 Lifting eye
3 Cylinder Head
• Removing => [ Cylinder Head ] Cylinder Head
• Check for distortion => [ Checking cylinder head for distortion ]
• Installing => [ Installing ] Cylinder Head
• Replace coolant after replacing
4 Mounting pins - 15 Nm
• For guide rail
• For right cylinder head
5 Cylinder head bolt
• Different lengths; the short bolts are installed on the outside
• Replace
• Note loosening sequence: Right => [ Follow sequence when
loosening cylinder head bolts. ] Cylinder Head, left => [ Follow sequence when
loosening cylinder head bolts. ] Cylinder Head
• Observe sequence for tightening: Right => [ Tightening sequence cylinder
bank 2 (left): ] Cylinder Head, left => [ Tightening sequence cylinder
bank 1 (right): ] Cylinder Head
6 Cylinder head cover
• Removing and installing => [ Cylinder Head Cover ] Service and Repair
7 Seals
• Replace if damaged or leaking
8 Ignition coil
• Use Ignition Coil Puller (W8 & W12 Eng.) (T10166) for removal => [ Removing ignition coils ]
9 O-ring
• Replace
10 Crankcase ventilation pipe
11 Special bolt - 8 Nm
• Replace if damaged or leaking
• Observe sequence for tightening => [ Tighten cylinder head cover in sequence. ] Service and Repair
12 Cylinder head cover gaskets
• Replace if damaged or leaking
13 Gasket
• Replace
14 Secondary Air Injection (AIR) combination valve
15 10 Nm
16 Cylinder head gasket
• Different versions for cylinder bank 1 (right) and 2 (left)
• Replacing => [ Cylinder Head ] Cylinder Head.
• Installation position: Part number facing cylinder head
• After replacing replace entire amount of coolant
Removing ignition coils
- Remove ignition coils from spark plugs using Ignition Coil Puller (W8 & W12 Eng.) (T10166).
Checking cylinder head for distortion
- Check cylinder head at multiple points for distortion, using straight edge and feeler gauges.
• Permissible distortion: Max. 0.05 mm
