Rain/Light Recognition Sensor, without Lane Assist
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Improvised tool
- Use 0.7 mm thick metal strip to make improvised tool with dimensions shown.
Removing
- If the rain/light recognition sensor (G397) was replaced, select the "Replace" function for the respective control module in "Guided Fault Finding" or "Guided Functions ".
- Select the function or path:
- Follow further instructions on display of (VAS 5051B).
- Guide offset end of improvised tool - 1 - under side of trim - 2 - as shown.
- Release trim retainer tabs by pulling improvised tool in - direction of arrow -.
- Repeat procedure on opposite side.
- Disconnect electrical connector - 2 -.
- Release retaining clips - arrows - using small screwdriver and remove Rain/Light Recognition Sensor (G397) - item 1 -.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
- Clean the rest of the sensor film off the windshield.
- Clean the contact surface on the windshield with cleaning solution (D 009 401 04).
- Press the grip surfaces - arrows - on the protective cap - 2 - together and remove it from the rain/light recognition sensor (G397) - item 1 -.
- Spray the entire surface of the sensor film - 1 - with cleaning solution (D 009 401 04).
- Insert the rain/light recognition sensor (G397) in the retaining plate and press it onto the windshield without forming bubbles.
• The rain/light recognition sensor (G397) must engage audibly in the retaining plate and have no embedded objects or bubbles between it and the windshield to function properly.
- Secure the rain/light recognition sensor (G397) to the retaining plate with the retaining spring.
- Code the new rain/light recognition sensor (G397).
- Select the function or path:
- Follow further instructions on display of (VAS 5051B).
