1 - Backrest

Removing

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.

Before handling airbag units (e.g. disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.

- Remove seat. Refer to => [ Seat ] Seat.

CAUTION!
The Airbag Adapter (VAS 6036) must stay connected to seat until seat is installed again.

- Mount the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) on the engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095).

- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).

- Remove side trim on sill side. Refer to => [ Side Trim, Sill Side ] Side Trim, Sill Side.

- Remove side trim on tunnel side. Refer to => [ Side Trim, Tunnel Side ] Side Trim, Tunnel Side.

3 - Screws (Qty. 4)

Tightening specification 20 Nm

4 - Plastic Washer

5 - Retainer

6 - Bolt

7 - Retainer

8 - Seat Pan





1 - Cable Ties (Qty. 2)

Cut cable ties - 1 - (Qty. 2).

Remove rubber straps - 2 - (Qty. 2).

Disconnect connectors - 5 - (Qty. 4).

Remove cable tie - 3 - on wiring harness.

Remove adhesive strips on securing rails - 4 - (Qty. 5).

1 - Backrest

Removing

- Remove screw - 6 -.

- Turn bracket - 7 - upward.

Vehicles with wiring routing Modular Light

Vehicles with Modular Light have only one wiring harness, from the side airbag through the coupling station. Refer to => [ wiring
routing ] Front Seats.

- Remove corrugated tube => [ Modular Wiring Routing with Corrugated Tube on Front Seat ] Front Seats.

Vehicles with wiring routing Modular

Using wiring routing Modular is only on vehicles with the bladder system and is not used in all markets. Refer to => [ wiring routing ] Front Seats.

- Remove corrugated tube. Refer to => [ Modular Wiring Routing with Corrugated Tube on Front Seat ] Front Seats.

Procedure for all vehicles

- Remove bolts - 3 - (Qty. 4).

- Tip backrest - 1 - forward on seat.

- Push cushion aside and carefully disconnect cable harness - 2 - from seat pan - 8 -.

- Remove backrest - 1 -.

Installing

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order. Observe the following when doing so:

- When installing bracket - 5 -, install bolt - 6 - together with plastic washer - 4 -.

- Always replace bolts - 3 - (Qty. 4).

- Cut threads in backrest frame before installing screws - 3 - (Qty. 4).

Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.

- Switch on ignition.

CAUTION!
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect battery ground wire with ignition switched on.

- If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75 ) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B).

- For seats with seat memory: Perform a basic setting for backrest or seat after installing seat in vehicle.
