Multi-Function Transmission Range Switch, Removing And Installing
Required Special Tools and Equipment
- T10173 Adjusting device
- V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench
Removing
- Place selector lever in "N" position.
- Switch off ignition.
- Disconnect hose - 5 - from air filter housing.
- Press selector lever cable -1 - off of lever/selector shaft - 6 - using screwdriver.
- Do not loosen screws - 2 -.
- Do not kink selector lever cable.
- Disconnect connector - 5 - at Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch.
- Remove lever/selector shaft -1 -
- Bend hooks of locking washer - 2 - back using a screwdriver.
NOTE: If one or more hooks on lock washer are broken during bending, these must be replaced.
- Remove nut - 3 - with washers - 2 - and -1 -.
- Remove both screws - B - and pull Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch - A - upward over selector shaft.
Installing
Installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:
- Place Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125- on selector shaft.
- Hand-tighten Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch fastening screws - B -.
- Install washers -1 -, - 2 - and nut - 3 - on selector shaft.
Nut tightening torque: 7 Nm.
- Secure nut by bending hooks on lock washer - 2 - up.
NOTE: If one or more hooks on lock washer are broken during bending, these must be replaced.
- Adjust Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125-.
- Install lever/selector shaft -1 -.
Nut - 3 - tightening torque: 12.5 Nm.
NOTE: Transmission must remain in "N", shift back to "N" if necessary.
- Connect connector - 5 - to Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch.
- Press selector lever cable -1 - onto lever/selector shaft - 6 -.
NOTE: Under some circumstances, you will have to switch the lever/selector shaft to the correct position in order to press selector lever cable on.
- Do not kink selector lever cable.
- Connect hose - 5 - to air filter housing.
- Selector lever cable, checking adjustment.
Multi-Function Transmission Range Switch, Adjusting
- Place selector lever in "N" position.
- Switch off ignition.
- Disconnect hose - 5 - from air filter housing.
- Press selector lever cable -1 - off of lever/selector shaft - 6 - using screwdriver.
- Do not loosen screws - 2 -.
- Do not kink selector lever cable.
- Remove lever/selector shaft -1 -.
- Loosen both screws - B -.
NOTE: Do not unscrew screws completely.
- Place T10173 adjustment gauge on selector shaft.
- Turn Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch - A - until tab on connector - arrow 1 - engages in groove in adjustment gauge T10173.
If tab on connector cannot engage in groove in adjustment gauge, transmission is not in "N" position. In this case, transmission must be shifted to "N" position using adjustment gauge:
- To do this, turn adjustment gauge forward or back until connector tab - arrow 1 - can engage in groove in adjustment gauge T10173 (turn Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch - A - slightly as well, if necessary).
- Secure adjustment gauge T10173 to selector shaft with knurled thumb screw - C -.
- Tighten both screws - B - to 5.5 Nm.
- Remove adjustment gauge from selector shaft.
Rest of installation is the reverse of removal
- Install lever/selector shaft -1 -.
Nut - 3 - tightening torque: 12.5 Nm.
- Press selector lever cable -1 - onto lever/selector shaft - 6 -.
NOTE: Under some circumstances, you will have to switch the lever/selector shaft to the correct position in order to press selector lever cable on.
- Do not kink selector lever cable.
- Connect hose - 5 - to air filter housing.
- Selector lever cable, checking adjustment.
