Automatic Transmission Component Locations







1 - Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-
- Multi-pin connector, loosening
- Control module is checked with On Board Diagnostic (OBD)
2 - Data Link Connector (DLC)
- Installation position See Data Link Connector (DLC)
3 - Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-
- Installation position, Fig. See Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-
- checked with On Board Diagnostic (OBD)
4 - Valve body
- Installation position, Fig. See Valve body
5 - Wiring harness with 8-pin connector and integrated Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor -G93-
- Component location: Wiring harness is secured to valve body
- Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor -G93- is checked with On Board Diagnostic (OBD)
6 - Wiring harness with 14-pin connector
- Component location: Wiring harness is secured to valve body for solenoid valves and transmission sensors
7 - Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125-
- Installation position, Fig. See Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125-
- checked with On Board Diagnostic (OBD)
8 - Shift mechanism cover with Tiptronic Switch F189
9 - Starting Interlock Relay -J207-

10 - Transmission Input Speed (RPM) Sensor -G182-

11 - Transmission Output Speed (RPM) Sensor -G195-
- measures transmission output speed

12 - Transmission Range (TR) Display -Y6-
- A gear indicator that has gone out indicates emergency operation with inactive transmission control module.
- Completely lit gear indicator indicates emergency operation with active transmission control module.
13 - Kick Down Switch -F8-
- checked with On Board Diagnostic (OBD) Transmission of signal from Engine Control Module to Transmission Control Module via CAN-bus
- Accelerator pedal module.
14 - Brake Light Switch -F-
- Transmission of signal from Engine Control Module to Transmission Control Module via CAN-bus checked with On Board Diagnostic (OBD)







Data Link Connector (DLC)
Component location: Data Link Connector (DLC) is located under knee bolster to left of steering wheel.







Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-
Component location: Shift Solenoid Lock is located in shift mechanism.







Valve body
Component location: Valve body is bolted onto bottom of transmission housing and covered with transmission oil pan.







Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125-

Component location: Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch is located at top of transmission. Connector -Item 5- is connected directly to Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch.







Tiptronic Switch -F189-
Component location: Tiptronic Switch is integrated into symbol interface circuit board which is located in shift mechanism cover.







Starting Interlock Relay -J207-
Component location: On 13-pin relay carrier






Transmission Output Speed (RPM) Sensor -G195-
Component location: Transmission Output Speed (RPM) Sensor -G195- (- arrow 2 -) is secured to transmission housing behind valve body.







Transmission Input Speed (RPM) Sensor -G182-
Component location: Transmission Input Speed (RPM) Sensor -G182- (- arrow 1 -) is secured to transmission housing behind valve body.







Transmission Range (TR) Display -Y6-
Component location: Integrated in instrument cluster

NOTE: Transmission Range (TR) Display can only be replaced together with instrument cluster.







Kick Down Switch -F8-

Component location:
- On vehicles with gasoline engines, a specific value from Throttle Position (TP) Sensor -G79-/Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 2 - G185- is saved in the Engine Control Module (ECM).







Brake Light Switch -F-
Component location: The Brake Light Switch - arrow - is located on the pedal assembly.

NOTE: To ensure that it is absolutely securely seated, the switch may only be installed once.
