6-Speed Automatic Transmission
6-Speed Automatic Transmission
CAUTION: Observe the following for all installations, especially in engine compartment due to lack of room:
- Route all the various lines (e.g. for fuel, hydraulics, EVAP canister system, coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum lines and hoses) and electrical wiring so that the original positions are restored.
- Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
- Before working on the running engine, set selector lever in "P" position and apply parking brake.
Transmission
The 09G automatic transmission is equipped with 6 hydraulically-activated forward gears. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gear become mechanically activated gears by bypassing the torque converter slip when the torque converter lockup clutch is closed.
Torque Converter
The torque converter is equipped with a torque converter lockup clutch. The torque converter lockup clutch is closed depending on load and speed.
ATF
ATF fill is permanent. ATF does not need to be changed in a repair.
The ATF level in the planetary transmission and final drive is checked and filled together.
- Only genuine Audi ATF should be used in automatic transmission 09G. All other oils can cause the transmission to malfunction or fail.
Shift Point Changes on Uphill Or Downhill Stretches
On uphill or downhill stretches, the shifting is automatically selected depending on throttle position, vehicle speed and additional characteristics.
- Shift characteristic for extreme uphill driving is adjusted to engine performance
- The shift characteristic for extreme uphill driving is adjusted to the engine brake performance.
- By directly selecting a gear with Tiptronic, the engine brake effect can also be utilized with a concrete gear, e.g. when driving with a trailer on slopes.
