Automatic Transmission Control Module (TCM) - J217 -, Removing and Installing



Automatic Transmission Control Module (TCM) - J217 -, removing and installing, 09G, 6 Speed A/T
Location: The TCM is located in the plenum chamber in the center near the engine control module.

Removing
- Open hood.





- Pry off both trim caps - 3 - with a screwdriver.





- Remove rubber seal - 1 - from plenum chamber cover.
- Remove plenum chamber cover - 2 - and disconnect washer fluid line.
- Disconnect electrical connectors for washer nozzle heating.
- Switch ignition on.





- Operate windshield wiper and switch off ignition when points - a - of wiper linkage point to right.

Note:
^ This step is necessary to improve access to the transmission control module.
^ Allow 30 seconds after switching off the ignition before disconnecting or attaching the control module connector.





- Release connector in direction of arrow and disconnect it from transmission control module.

Note: Protect fender and plenum chamber panel from scratches using adhesive tape.

- Unscrew 4 nuts securing control module.
- Remove control module.

Note: Turn the control module slightly if necessary.

Installing
Installation is in reverse order. Note the following:

Note: The adaptation values in the transmission control module are reset when the connector is unplugged. The control module must relearn these values after being put back into operation. The shifting quality may be lower than normal during this re-learning process.

- Tighten 4 nuts securing control module to 10 Nm.
