Crankshaft, Component Overview
Crankshaft, component overview
1 - Cylinder block
^ Cylinder bore, checking
^ Piston and cylinder dimensions
2 - Oil spray nozzle for piston cooling
^ For crankshaft bearings 2... 7
^ Opening pressure: 2.0 bar
3 - Bearing shell
^ For cylinder block with oil intake bore
^ Do not interchange used bearings (mark)
^ Replacement parts are only color coded "yellow"
4 - Crankshaft
^ After removal, lay aside so that sensor wheel item -10- is not supporting weight or it will be damaged
^ Axial play, New: 0.07... 0.23 mm; Wear limit: 0.30 mm
^ Measure radial play with Plastigage
^ Do not turn crankshaft when measuring radial play
^ Radial play, New: 0.02... 0.06 mm; Wear limit: 0.10 mm
^ Crankshaft dimensions
5 - Thrust washer
^ For bearing 5
^ Observe locating point
^ Lubricating groove faces crankshaft
6 - Bearing cap
^ Bearing cap 1: belt pulley side
^ Bearing cap 5 with notches for thrust washers
^ Retaining tabs of bearing shells and cylinder block/bearing caps must lie above one another
7 - 30 Nm + 180 degrees (1/2 turn) further
^ Replace
8 - Bearing shell
^ For bearing cap without bore
^ Do not interchange used bearings (mark)
^ Replacement parts are only color coded "yellow"
9 - Thrust washer
^ For bearing 5
^ Observe locating point
^ Lubricating groove faces crankshaft
10 - Sensor wheel
^ For Engine speed sensor -G28-
^ Sensor wheel must be replaced every time bolts are loosened
11 - 10 Nm + 90 degrees (1/4 turn) further
^ Replace
^ Sensor wheel must be replaced every time bolts are loosened
Removing and installing sensor wheel
The sensor wheel and securing bolts must be replaced every time the bolts are loosened.
^ Contact surface of crankshaft/sensor wheel must be free of oil and grease.
- Thinly coat contact surface of crankshaft/sensor wheel with locking fluid.
Installed location
^ "VR6" marking -2- must be positioned at bore of bolt -3- that goes into crankshaft crankpin (contour of crankshaft is shown by dashed line -1-)
^ Gap (arrow) in ring gear lies across from designation
^ Second "VR6" marking -4- may be ignored
- Tighten new bolts only finger-tight.
- Tighten bolt -1-.
- Tighten bolt -2-.
