Front Brakes, 2FN, Assembly Overview





Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

^ Torque wrench (5 - 50 Nm) VAG 1331
^ Torque wrench VAG1410
^ Brake pedal handle V.A.G. 1869/2

Note:
^ After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in the normal operating position.
^ For extracting brake fluid from reservoir, always use Brake Filler and Bleeder Unit VAS 5234 or Extraction Unit VAG 1869/4.
^ Apply Brake pedal handle V.A.G. 1869/2 before removing a brake caliper or disconnecting a brake hose from the caliper.
^ Tightening torques for wheel bolts
^ Installing wheels tightening torque: 120 Nm





1 - Phillips-head screw, 4 Nm

2 - Brake disc

^ When worn always replace both sides
^ Left and right discs are different; arrow shows direction of rotation
^ Unbolt brake caliper before removing

3 - Brake pads

^ With wear indicator

- Warning lamp lights up in instrument cluster when wear limit is reached (approx. 4 mm)

^ Always renew both sides together

4 - Retaining spring

^ Press under brake carrier and insert in two holes in brake caliper housing

Note:
^ If the retaining spring is installed incorrectly, the wear of the outer pad cannot be compensated, so brake pedal travel will increase accordingly.

5 - Brake carrier

^ Bolted onto wheel bearing housing

6 - Brake caliper housing

^ Do not disconnect brake hose when changing pads
^ Removing:

- Apply Brake pedal handle V.A.G. 1869/2
- Unscrew brake hose -Item - from caliper

^ Installing:

- Screw brake hose -Item - onto caliper
- Take out brake pedal depressor VAG 1869/2

^ Hose must not be twisted when installed

7 - Bushing

8 - Guide pin, 25 Nm

9 - Cap

^ Detach
^ Upper cap combined with wiring retainer for pad wear indicator

10 - Bracket

^ Bolted to brake caliper housing

11 - Hex bolt, 8 Nm

12 - Brake hose/line, 15 Nm

^ Screw into brake caliper housing
^ Do not disconnect brake hose when changing pads
^ Hose must not be twisted when installed

13 - Ribbed bolt, 125 Nm

^ Clean if re-installed

14 - Wheel bearing housing

15 - Socket head bolt, 8 Nm

16 - ABS wheel speed sensor

^ Before installing sensor, clean inside of bore and lubricate with grease G 000 650

17 - Backing plate

18 - Hex bolt, 10 Nm

19 - Wheel hub with rotor

20 - Connector

21 - Bracket

22 - Bolt
