Test Conditions
- Respective fuses must be OK
- Instrument Cluster Control Module -J285- must be OK.
- Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V.
- All electrical consumers such as, for example, lights and rear window defroster must be switched off.
- The parking brake must be applied, otherwise the daytime running lights are switched on.
- Selector lever must be in "P" position.
- The Ground (GND) connections to transmission must be OK.
Function Test
- Switch ignition on.
- Actuate and hold brake pedal.
- Shift through all selector lever positions.
- Selector lever position must correspond to display of measuring value blocks in Instrument Cluster Control Module -J285-.
- Switch off ignition.
If selector lever position does not correspond to display of Instrument Cluster Control Module -J285-:
- Disconnect connector - 2 - from Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125-.
Observe safety precautions.
- Check harness connector for contact corrosion and ingress of water.
If harness connector is not OK:
- Repair malfunction and repeat test sequence.
- Erase DTC memory of TCM. Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory
- Generate readiness code. Generate Readiness Code
If harness connector is OK:
- Check lines to TCM according to wiring diagram.
Check Wire Connections to TCM
- Connect test box to TCM wiring harness. Test Box, Connecting For Wiring Test
- Check wire connections between test box and 10-pin connector to TCM for open circuit, according to wiring diagram.
Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ohms
- Also check wires for short circuit to each other.
Specification: Infinity Ohms.
If no malfunction is found in wires:
- Check Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125- adjustment.
- Check selector lever cable adjustment.
Continuation for All Vehicles
- Erase DTC memory of TCM. Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory
- Generate readiness code. Generate Readiness Code
If no malfunctions are detected in the wires and the adjustment of the selector lever cable and Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch is OK:
- Replace Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125-.
- Erase DTC memory of TCM. Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory
- Generate readiness code. Generate Readiness Code
