Wheel bearing, assembly overview
Load-bearing components or parts of the suspension must not be welded or straightened.
Bonded rubber bushings can only be turned to a limited extent. The bolt connections on the suspension links should only be tightened when the vehicle is standing on the ground.
The wheel bearings must not be subjected to load when the 12-point nut / flange bolt has been loosened.
If the wheel bearings are subjected to the full weight of the vehicle they will be overloaded, resulting in reduced service life. Please note the following:
- Have a second technician press brake pedal.
- Lift vehicle far enough to relieve load on front wheels.
- Loosen 12-point nut / flange bolt.
Never move vehicles after the drive axles have been removed; this will result in wheel bearing damage. If the vehicle has to be moved, always note the following points:
- Install an outer joint in place of the drive axle.
- Tighten outer joint to 190 Nm.
