Oil Filter: Service and Repair



Engine Oil, Draining and Replacing Oil Filter

WARNING! Oil extraction not permitted with various engine types!

Note:
- Perform oil change at operating temperature.

Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Oil Extractor -VAG 1782-
- Hazet Tension Band -2171-1-
- Oil Filter Wrench -3417-
- Oil Drain Adapter -T 40057-
- 2.0 TFSI Engine Code CCTA and CBFA
- 2.0 FSI and 2.0 TFSI Engine Code BPY
- 3.2L MPI
- TDI PD engines
- CR TDI engines

Note:
- Observe waste disposal regulations!

2.0 FSI and 2.0 TFSI BPY

- Remove the noise insulation. Service and Repair

Note:
- Before removing oil filter, motor oil must be drained from filter so that it does not drain onto engine and attached parts.




- Remove bottom valve protective cap -1-.
- Remove ball head hose from -T 40057- and turn threaded bolt in bottom of the filter housing bottom valve -2- until slight resistance is felt.
- Now place ball head hose on threaded bolts and turn T40057 to stop - a clear snap of the drain valve will be heard.
- Allow oil filter to run empty.

WARNING! Hot engine oil

- Open oil drain plug or extract engine oil.
- Remove -T 40057- .



- Check whether bottom valve -1- is flush and not crooked, as in illustration (A02-0423).
- Remove protective cap.
- Open oil filter housing -2- with -3417- or with socket AF 36, e.g. -T10125- and remove oil filter.
- Replace filter insert -4- and gasket -3-.



- Note position of service flag on sealing ring (see -arrow-).

Note:
- Observe waste disposal regulations!

- Clean sealing surface on oil filter housing.
- Lubricate rubber seal lightly with oil.
- Smooth side of sealing ring must face toward outside
- Screw on filter housing and tighten.
- Install oil drain plug with new gasket.
- Fill with engine oil.

Tightening Specifications
Oil filter 25+5 Nm
Oil drain plug 30 Nm

TDI PD engines

- To drain oil, remove noise insulation on drain plug. Service and Repair



- Loosen cap -arrow- with Socket AF 36 .

Note:
- Loosen the cap before draining / extracting, so that the engine oil can run out of the oil filter housing.

- Open oil drain plug or extract engine oil.
- Replace O-rings and oil filter insert.

Note:
- Observe waste disposal regulations!

- Tighten cap with Socket AF 36 .
- Install oil drain plug with new gasket.
- Fill with engine oil.

Tightening Specifications
Oil drain plug 30 Nm
Cover 25 Nm

CR TDI engines:

- To drain oil, remove noise insulation on drain plug. Service and Repair



- Remove the vacuum shut-off valve -1- from its retainer and move it to the side.



- Loosen the cap -2- with Socket AF 32 .

Note:
- Loosen the cap before draining / extracting, so that the engine oil can run out of the oil filter housing.

- Open oil drain plug or extract engine oil.
- Replace O-rings and oil filter insert.

Note:
- Observe waste disposal regulations!

- Tighten cap with Socket AF 32 .
- Install the vacuum shut-off valve -1- into its retainer.
- Install oil drain plug with new gasket.
- Fill with engine oil.

Tightening Specifications
Oil drain plug 30 Nm
Cover 25 Nm

3.2L MPI

- To drain oil, remove noise insulation on drain plug. Service and Repair



- Remove oil drain plug -1- and drain oil.

Note:
- Observe waste disposal regulations!

- Loosen lower portion of filter housing -3- at the hex -2- or circumference -4- and remove.
- Remove the old air filter.
- Thoroughly wipe oil filter housing with a shop cloth.
- Remove old O-ring.
- Take new O-ring and coat with engine oil.
- Install new filter element and O-ring.
- Tighten the filter housing lower section -3- at the hex bolt -2- to 30 Nm.
- Install the oil drain plug -1- with a new seal and tighten to 10 Nm.
- Fill with engine oil.

Tightening Specifications
Oil drain plug 30 Nm
