Oil Pressure and Oil Pressure Switch, Checking (2-Pin Oil Pressure Switch)
Oil Pressure and Oil Pressure Switch, Checking (2-Pin Oil Pressure Switch)
• 1-pin and 2-pin oil pressure switches are installed. Check which oil pressure switch is installed. Check the oil pressure and oil pressure switch (1-pin oil pressure switch). Refer to => [ Oil Pressure and Oil Pressure Switch, Checking (1-Pin Oil Pressure Switch) ] Oil Pressure and Oil Pressure Switch, Checking (1-Pin Oil Pressure Switch).
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Oil Pressure Gauge (V.A.G 1342)
• Test Adapter F/VAS 5051 DSO (2 Pin) (VAS 5256)
• Hand-Held Multimeter (V.A.G 1526D)
Procedure
• Engine oil level OK.
• Engine oil temperature at least 80 °C (176 °F) (radiator fan must start up once).
• Function test and servicing the optical and acoustic oil pressure indicator: Wiring diagrams, refer to "Function and Component Selection".
- Remove the oil pressure switch (F1). Refer to => [ Oil Pressure Switch (F1) ] Service and Repair and screw it into the (V.A.G 1342).
- Screw (V.A.G 1342) into the oil filter bracket in place of the oil pressure switch.
- Attach the (VAS 5256) to the oil pressure switch.
- Connect the (V.A.G 1526D) to the (VAS 5256) and set it for the continuity test.
• The oil pressure switch must be open at less than 1.2 bar.
- Start engine and increase engine speed: The oil pressure switch must close at 1.2 to 1.6 bar. Replace the oil pressure switch if it does not.
- Increase engine speed further. At 2000 RPM and an oil temperature of 80 °C (176 °F), the oil pressure must be between 2.7 and 4.5 bar.
At higher engine speeds oil pressure must not exceed 7.0 bar
