Compression Check: Testing and Inspection
Compression, Checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Spark Plug Removal Tool (3122 B)
• Compression Tester (V.A.G 1763)
• Puller For Ignition Coil (T10095 A)
• Assembly Tool (T10118)
Procedure
• Engine oil temperature min. 30 °C / 86 °F.
• Battery voltage at least 12.5 V.
- Switch off ignition.
- Open engine compartment E-box cover and remove fuel injector fuse - 29 -.
- Disconnect electrical harness connectors to ignition coils, to do so attach (T10118) on release button - arrow - and carefully disconnect harness connector.
- Attach (T10095 A) on ignition coils - arrow - as depicted in the illustration and pull out ignition coils in succession.
- Using (3122 B), remove spark plugs.
- Check compression using (V.A.G 1763).
• Using tester => operating instructions.
- Have a second technician press accelerator pedal completely and at the same time operate starter long enough until pressure increase no longer appears on tester.
Assembly is in reverse order of removal, note the following:
- Install sparks plugs.
- As a final step, check Engine Control Module (ECM) DTC memory and erase it, since malfunctions were stored by removing fuses and disconnecting electrical harness connectors .
