Affected Vehicles

87 Clicking or ticking noises from HVAC actuator motors

Condition





Clicking or ticking noises heard in the dashboard area. In many cases these noises are only audible after cold start and during the time that the vehicle is stationary and the cabin is quiet.

Technical Background

Noise source is generated by the HVAC flap actuator motors.

Production Solution

Improved flap actuator motors.

Service

1. Confirm the noises during a test drive.

2. Check which flap actuator motor of the HVAC system is causing the noise. Any of the following flap actuator motors may be affected: V70 Central Air Flap Motor, V107 Defroster Flap Motor, V158 Left Temperature Flap Motor,V159 Right Temperature Flap MotorV71 Air Flow Flap Motor and V113 Recirculation Flap Motor.

3. Replace the motor(s) causing the noises.
