Clutch Repair Information

• Observe notes for removing and installing clutch master or slave cylinder => [ Master Cylinder and Slave Cylinder General Information ] Description and Operation

• "SAC" stands for "Self-Adjusting Clutch".

• With SAC clutch pressure plate (self-adjusting clutch pressure plate, made by LuK), an adjusting ring must be reset if only clutch plate is replaced. Refer to => [ SAC Clutch Pressure Plate Adjuster Ring, Adjusting ] Adjustments.

• To avoid damaging SAC pressure plate when removing or installing, observe installation procedure for SAC pressure plate. Refer to => [ Clutch with SAC Pressure Plate ] Clutch With SAC Pressure Plate.

• Check SAC clutch plate for distortion. Refer to => [ SAC Pressure Plate, Checking for Distortion,

• On the Sachs self-adjusting clutch, the clutch disc and clutch pressure plate can only be replaced together. Refer to => [ Self-Adjusting Clutch, Sachs Assembly Overview ] Self-Adjusting Clutch, Sachs Assembly Overview.

• Replace clutch plates and pressure plates with damaged or loose rivets.

• Allocate thrust plate and clutch disc via engine codes.

• Follow removal procedure to avoid damaging dual-mass flywheel when removing. Refer to => [ Double-Mass Flywheel, Removing ] Self-Adjusting Clutch, Sachs Assembly Overview.

• Clean input shaft splines and (in case of used clutch plates) clean hub splines, remove corrosion and apply only a very thin coating of Lubricant (G000100) on the splines. Then move clutch plate back and forth on input shaft until the hub moves freely on the shaft. Excess grease must be removed .

• Pressure plates are corrosion-protected and greased. Only the contact surfaces may be cleaned, otherwise the service life of the clutch will be considerably reduced.

• To reduce odor caused by a burnt clutch, thoroughly clean the clutch bell housing, the flywheel and the side of the engine facing toward the transmission.
