Because of poor accessibility to inner bolt - 1 - when vehicle is resting on wheels, transverse link can only be removed when subframe is removed.





Measure vehicle after repair. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.

Removing

- Remove subframe. Refer to => [ Subframe ] Service and Repair.

- Mark eccentric bolt - 2 - to stub axle carrier/wheel bearing housing, e.g. with a felt-tip pen.

- Separate connections - 1 - and - 2 -.

Installing

Replace bolts and self-locking nuts. Notes in exploded view diagrams. Refer to => [ Subframe ] Rear Suspension.

Do not interchange right and left parts. "R" or " L" is marked on back of transverse link.

Installation position of control arm at subframe

- Loosely screw the transverse link - 2 - to the subframe.





- Lay a ruler or straight edge - 1 - flat against stabilizer bar mounting bracket - arrow -.

- Position transverse link so that dimension a = 142±1 mm.

- Fasten transverse link to subframe in this position

- Attach stub axle carrier or wheel bearing housing to transverse control arm and tighten new nuts to 20 Nm. Note location of eccentric bolt - 2 -.





- Install subframe. Refer to => [ Subframe ] Service and Repair.

- Bonded rubber bushings have a limited torsional range. Only tighten threaded connections at control arms if vehicle is in curb weight position. Refer to => [ Wheel Bearing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Rear Suspension.

- Loosen connection - 2 - and retighten

- Perform vehicle alignment. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.

Alignment must take place on a VW/Audi recommended alignment stand.
