Stone Shield (New Version) For Rear Tie Rod



Stone shield (new version) for tie rod (one-piece version), removing and installing

Note:
^ The stone shield for the tie rod is only installed on vehicles with comfort/heavy-duty suspension.

Replacing stone shield with tie rod removed





- Press clips - 1 - forward out of stone shield - 2 -.
- Unclip stone shield - 2 - from tie rod - 3 -.

Installation is carried out in reverse sequence.

When installing stone shield, make sure that it is correctly engaged on tie rod.

Note:
^ The procedure for replacing the stone shield is described and illustrated for the right side of the vehicle.

Removing
- Cut open stone shield in the vicinity of bolt connections at the trapezoidal link/tie rod using a knife. Take care not to damage tie rod or other suspension parts.





- Press clip - 3 - forward out of stone shield - 2 -.
- Press clip - 1 - forward out of stone shield - 2 - until head of clip contacts trapezoidal link.

4 - Tie rod





- Cut off end of clip - 1 - (part marked in illustration). Do not to damage other suspension parts.

- Pull the rest of clip - 1 - rearwards out of stone shield.
- Unclip stone shield from tie rod.

Installing





- Make a cut in new stone shield at markings - A - (for installation on right side of vehicle) or at markings - B - (left side of vehicle).
- Install stone shield on inside first (side facing center of vehicle), then on the outside.





- File down clip for the inside end of stone shield about 2 mm - arrows -.





- Push the filed-down clip on the inside end of the stone shield through the tie rod and the stone shield from the rear.
- Clip stone shield onto tie rod. Make sure that stone shield is correctly engaged.





- Press clips - 1 - and - 3 - rearward into stone shield - 2 -.
