Power Front Memory Seats

Removing





CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.

- Remove front seat.

- Disconnect the electrical connector on the seat fore/aft adjustment motor.

- Remove the screw - 1 -; to do this, connect the contacts on the motor with a battery using the cables from the (V.A.G 1594C) and bring the seat forward/backward adjustment into position shown - 1 -.

- Remove the mount - 2 - for the belt latch - 3 - and disconnect the seat belt fastening sensor connector.

- Mount the (VAS 6136) on the (VAS 6095).

- Attach the seat to the (VAS 6136).

- Remove side trim on sill side.

- Remove side trim on tunnel side.

- Create photos or sketches of wire securing and routing.

- Remove the front backrest.

If the front backrest is not removed, the load on the seat frame will cause the "ceramic sleeves" to break.

- Remove the bolt - 1 -.





- Remove the nut - 4 - and then remove the screw - 3 -.

- Fold the seat pan - 2 - up - arrow - and secure it with a wooden block so it does not fold back down.

The bushings - 1 - in the bearings on the lower seat pan frame - 2 - must not be damaged with folding the frame upward.





- Disconnect electrical harness connector - 2 -.





- Remove the screws - arrows - and remove the height adjustment motor - 1 -.

Installation

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.

Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following:





CAUTION!
Damaged bushings - 1 - cannot be replaced with workshop materials.

If the bushings get damaged, the lower seat pan frame - 2 - must be replaced.

- Clean the threaded bolt holes for self-locking nuts, for example using a thread tap.

- Replace all self-locking bolts.

CAUTION!
Before handling any airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Make sure the clip - A - and plastic toothed segment collar - 2 - as well as locking pins - B arrows - are inserted correctly in holes on fitting - 1 -.





- Make sure the plastic toothed segment - 2 - is clipped to fitting - 1 - correctly.

Plastic toothed segment collar - arrow C - must contact fitting - 1 - evenly.

- Route and secure wiring according to photos or sketches that were made.

- Ensure all connectors are engaged correctly.

Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.

Ensure wires are not pinched.

CAUTION!
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. Maintain personal safety when connecting the battery by staying out of airbag deployment areas, keeping a distance from belt tensioners/seat belts and ensuring no other people are in the vehicle interior at the moment when the battery is connected.

- Switch on ignition.

- Connect battery with ignition on.

- If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again.

- With memory seats, perform a basic setting for the backrest or seat after installing the seat in the vehicle.

Seat Angle Adjustment Motor

1 Motor for Seat Inclination Adjustment

Removing

- Remove the seat.

- Mount the (VAS 6136) on the (VAS 6095).

- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136).

- Remove bolts - 2 - (quantity: 4).

- Remove the screw - 3 -.

- Remove connector - 4 -.

- Remove motor for seat tilt adjustment - 1 -.

Installing

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

Replace

Threaded holes for screws must always be cleaned (for example, with thread cutter)

1 Drawer

Removing

- Remove the seat. Refer to => [ Standard Front Seat ] Standard Front Seats.

- Mount the (VAS 6136) on the (VAS 6095).

- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136).

- Pull handle - 2 - and pull out drawer - 1 -.

- Insert a screwdriver with inserted bit into opening - 5 - and remove the bolt installed beneath.

- Remove the screws - 4 - (2x).

- Remove the screw - 3 -.

- Remove drawer - 1 -.

Installing

- To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

1 Seat cushion extension

Removing

- Remove the seat.

- Mount the (VAS 6136) on the (VAS 6095).

- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136).

- Remove drawer or storage compartment:

Drawer, removing, refer to => [ Drawer, through 06.2006 ]

Storage compartment, removing, refer to => [ Storage Compartment ].

- Detach cover and cushion from seat pan. Refer to => [ Seat Pan Cover and Upholstery, Sport Seat ] Seat Pan Cover and Upholstery, Sport Seat.

- Detach seat cushion extension from cover and cushion.

Installing

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

- Pry off clips - 4 - (quantity: 4) from face plate - 3 -.

Backrest Adjustment Motor

Removing

- Remove the seat.

- Mount the (VAS 6136) on the (VAS 6095).

- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136).

- Remove side trim on sill side.

- Remove side trim on tunnel side.

- Remove backrest cover panel.





A passenger seat backrest is shown in the illustration.

- Remove bolt from motor for backrest adjustment => [ Removing mount for motor for backrest adjustment ].

- Pry out spring washer - 5 - on side of backrest motor with a screwdriver at - B -.

- Tap shaft - 4 - through the side of the backrest frame using a hammer and drift punch.

- Pull out shaft - 4 - just far enough out of backrest frame - 1 - until motor for backrest adjustment can be removed.

Installing

- Adapt the splines of new motor for backrest adjustment => [ Preparing backrest adjustment motor ].

- Slide shaft - 4 - through motor for backrest adjustment and through backrest frame - 1 -.

- Set seat aside.

- Lay wood block - 2 - on opposite side of backrest adjustment motor below shaft - 4 - - A -.

- Using a socket (11 mm) - 3 -, drive spring washer - 5 - onto shaft - 4 - - C -.

- Install screw on backrest adjustment motor and connect connector.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

- After installing the memory seat, perform a basic setting for the backrest or seat.

Removing mount for motor for backrest adjustment





- Disconnect the connector - 5 -.

- Pull cover - 3 - and anti-crush fleece - 2 - aside.

- Remove the screw - 4 -.

Preparing backrest adjustment motor





- Using a screwdriver, turn the locking pin of splines - 1 - so it aligns with shaft of backrest frame.

Backrest Cover

In the illustration, removal and installation of backrest cover is shown on a front seat with the active head restraint system.

Removing and installing the backrest cover on a front seat without the active head restraint system is the same.

Removing

- Disengage footwell cover - 8 - on underside of seat at tabs - 7 - (quantity: 4) from spring mat.

- Disengage retaining strip - 2 -.

- Loosen grip channels - 6 - (quantity: 2) from side panels => [ Footwell cover retaining strip, loosening ].

- Press against backrest panel - 4 - at position of arrow, in order to pry out wire clips - 3 - (quantity: 3).

- Disengage backrest cover - 4 - upward from brackets - 5 - (2x).

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal. Be sure to note the following:

- Replace clips - 3 - (quantity: 3).

- Slide footwell fastening strip into side trim bracket => [ Footwell cover retaining strip, loosening ].

Four-Way Lumbar Support, Old Version

Removing

- Remove the seat.

- Mount the (VAS 6136) on the (VAS 6095).

- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136).

- Remove the backrest.

- Remove backrest cover panel.

- Pry fastening strips - 9 - (quantity: 3) out with a screwdriver.

- Drill out rivet - 8 -.

- Remove fastening strips - 11 - (quantity: 2).

- Disengage upper left and right four-way lumbar support - 4 - from backrest frame.

- Guide release - 3 - out of bracket -5-.

- Disengage release - 10 - on hook - 2 - out of four-way lumbar support - 4 -.

- Disengage the release cable - 10 - from the bracket - 1 -.

- Remove four-way lumbar support - 4 -.

Installing

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

Removing

- Remove the seat.

- Mount the (VAS 6136) on the (VAS 6095).

- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136).

- Remove backrest cover panel.

When removing lumbar support height adjustment motor:

- Remove side airbag. Refer to => [ Driver and Passenger Side Airbag Igniter, through 04.2007 ] Driver and Passenger Side Airbag Igniter, through 04.2007.

- Disconnect the connector - 10 -.

- Drill out rivets - 8 - (quantity: 2) on outer side.

- Disengage release - 3 - on hook - 6 - from retaining plate - 7 -.

- Guide release - 3 - out of bracket - 5 -.

When removing lumbar support adjustment motor:

- Disconnect the connector - 10 -.

- Drill out rivets - 8 - (quantity: 2) on outer side.

- Disengage release - 11 - on hook - 2 - out of four-way lumbar support - 4 -.

- Disengage the release cable - 11 - from the bracket - 1 -.
