Shift Interlock: Description and Operation
Selector Mechanism Emergency Release
• When the battery is disconnected or has been discharged, the selector lever cannot be shifted out of the "P" position. The vehicle cannot be moved or towed.
• By operating the manual release the shift lock solenoid (N110) will release the selector lever when there is no power supply.
- Remove the front ashtray insert.
- Pry the cover cap in the ashtray housing out with a screwdriver - arrow -.
• The shape of the cover caps may differ from the illustration.
- Press in the cylinder - arrow - on the shift lock solenoid (N110) through the center opening in the ashtray housing, e.g. with a screwdriver, and at the same time, with the button on the selector lever pressed, move the selector lever out of the "P" position.
• In this way, the selector lever lock is released in the "P" position via the locking lever - 1 -.
• The cylinder - arrow - on the shift lock solenoid (N110) is sometimes partially covered with a noise insulation mat or a wire which must be moved to the side.
