2/3 Backrest Cover and Upholstery
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Upholstery clip pliers (V.A.G 1634)
1 Bolt
2 Latch trim
3 Headrests (Qty. 2)
• Rear outer headrests are not the same as front headrests. If you remove all headrests, mark them with adhesive tape.
4 Headrest guides (Qty. 4)
• Install headrest guide with button at left
5 Upholstery
6 Retaining strip
7 Backrest shell
8 Retainer
9 Cover
• Removing
- Remove seat bench => [ Bench Seat ] Rear Seats.
- Remove 2/3 right backrest => [ Right 2/3 Backrest ] Rear Seats.
- Remove center armrest=> [ Center Armrest, Divided Rear Seat Backrest ] Rear Seats.
- Remove inside hinge trim => [ Inner Hinge Trim ] Rear Seats
- On vehicles with ski bag: Remove ski bag - 11 - => [ Ski Bag, Folding Backrest ].
- To remove headrests - 3 - (Qty. 2): Press button on left headrest guide - 4 - and lift headrest off.
- Remove the bolt - 15 - on the latch trim - 2 -.
- Press latch lever - 16 - in direction of arrow and remove screw - 1 -.
- Lift latch trim - 2 - off.
- Remove peripheral fastening strip - 11 - with a screwdriver from behind.
- Install cover and upper upholstery.
- Remove fastening strips - 6 - from support - 8 - with a screwdriver.
- Squeeze guide trim for three-point seat belt - 10 - together at bottom and lift it out.
- Squeeze headrest guides - 4 - (Qty. 4) together on bottom end and lift off.
- Remove cover and upholstery from backrest shell - 7 -.
- Install cover - 9 -.
- Remove fastening strips - 14 - from plastic clips - 13 - with a screwdriver.
- Cut upholstery clips - 12 -.
- Remove cover - 9 -.
• Installing
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order. When doing so, note the following:
- When installing new upholstery clips, use Upholstery Clip Pliers (V.A.G 1634).

13 Plastic clips
• Replace damaged plastic clips
14 Retaining strip
15 Bolt
16 Lock lever
