Front Side Airbag Crash Sensors
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• torque wrench (V.A.G 1410)
• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B)
1 Connector
Version I
• Disconnect the connector: Press the retainer - 3 - in the - direction of the arrow - and remove the crash sensor - 2 -.
Version II
• Disconnect the connector => [ Disconnecting the connector on the crash sensor
- version II ].
2 Front Side Airbag Crash Sensor (Pressure Sensor)
• Removing
- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on.
- Remove door trim. Refer to => [ Front Door Trim ] Front Door Trim.
- Remove the speaker in the door.
- Reach the crash sensor - 2 - through the opening for the speaker and disconnect the electrical connector => [ (Item 1) Connector ].
- Carefully remove the insulation far enough to reach the nuts - 4 -.
- Remove the nuts and the crash sensor.
• Installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal. Be sure to note the following:
- Ensure anti-rotation protector - 5 - engages in door shell.
- Press insulation onto door shell.
• For failure-free crash sensor function, you guarantee effective door seal after installation.
• Replace insulation if adhesive sealing material is damaged or dirty.
- Switch on ignition.
CAUTION!
No one should be in the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect battery ground strap.
- Follow measures after connecting battery.
• If the airbag malfunction indicator lamp (K75) indicates a malfunction after assembly, check the DTC memory with the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051B), clear it, and check it again.

Disconnecting the connector on the crash sensor - version II
- Pull the retainer - 4 - downward and out - arrow A -, press it down - arrow B - and disconnect the electrical connector - 5 - on the crash sensor - 3 -.
• Ignore - 1 and 2 -.
