38 MIL on, gear indicator flashing, sporadically no drive or lack of acceleration (DTC P1743 or P1741)
Condition
Sporadically no drive or lack of acceleration. The gear indicator display flashes red. DTC P1743/18151 or P1741/18149 stored in transmission fault memory.
Technical Background
Small metal particles from manufacturing process obstruct a valve and create the complaint.
Production Solution
Not applicable.
Service
It is not necessary to receive an authorization number from the Technical Assistance Center for the repairs described in this bulletin. Attach 5051 printouts to repair order. Warranty request documents received without 5051 printouts will be denied payment.
Clear the faults (with an adaption on channel 00), then perform an adaption drive as follows:
1. Confirm that the ATF is at a minimum 65 degree C (MVB:10 position 3).
2. With the ATF at a minimum 65 degree C, carefully operate the vehicle in an open space (clear of traffic and obstacles).
3. Shift vehicle into "D."
4. Drive forward at part load approximately 10 meters (33 feet), then apply brake pedal to a stop and continue to apply brake pedal for approximately 10 seconds.
5. Shift vehicle into "R."
6. Release brake pedal.
7. Drive backwards at part load approximately 10 meters (33 feet), then apply brake pedal to a stop and continue to apply brake pedal for approximately 10 seconds.
8. Repeat steps 1 - 7 (alternating between "D" and "R") five times.
9. Completed adaptions can be viewed in MVB 10 and 11, position 2.
10. With adaption completed, drive vehicle 6 to 12 miles.
- If the fault does not return and driveability is returned to normal, the vehicle can be released to the customer. The metal particles have been purged to the filter. The filter does not need to be replaced.
- If one of the faults returns after this process, the valve body must be replaced. Refer to Repair Manual Gr. 38 for repair procedures.
