Service
ServiceTip: If the adapter is already installed, this document will help you understand the wiring of the additional harness and relay, which is not documented in ELSA.
Installing adapter harness (Not installed)
1. Switch ignition off and remove ignition key.
2. Sedan: Lift luggage compartment floor mat and secure it in position.
Avant: Remove luggage compartment floor covering (Figure 1, 1) and spare wheel well cover plate (Figure 1, 2).
3. Release battery retaining strap (if installed).
Tip: If the battery retaining strap is not installed with a quick-release fastener, unscrew securing bolt on battery retaining strap.
4. Use a screwdriver (Figure 3, 2) to release retaining clips (Figure 3, arrows) and detach cover (Figure 3, 1) for negative terminal.
5. Loosen nut several turns and disconnect ground clamp (Figure 4, arrow) from battery terminal.
6. Remove rubber seal (Figure 5, 1) from plenum chamber cover.
7. Detach plenum chamber cover (Figure 5, 2).
8. Use screwdriver to pry off caps from wiper arms and unscrew hexagon nuts.
9. Detach wiper arms from shafts.
10. Unscrew left and right bolts (Figure 6, arrows) from cowl panel (Figure 6, 1).
11. Unscrew bolts (Figure 7, arrows) and remove cover for electronics box.
12. Carefully lever off retaining clip (Figure 8, 3) using a screwdriver (Figure 8, arrows 1 and 2) and remove engine control unit from electronics box.
Overview of adapter harness
13. Disconnect 4.0mm sq wire (red/green) to Coolant FC Control Module J293. Disconnect Coolant FC Control Module 2 J671 from screw connection on fuses S42 (V6 and V8) and S104 (V8 only).
14. Cut off terminals from 4.0mm sq wire (red/green).
15. Connect adapter harness wire (Figure 12, 1) with 4.0mm sq wire (red/green) to Coolant FC Control Module J293.
16. On V8 engines, connect adapter harness wire (Figure 12, 6) with 4.0mm sq wire (red/green) to Coolant FC Control Module 2 J671.
Tip: Interchanging wires 1 and 6 does not affect function on V8 engines.
On V6 engines, you need to be sure not to switch the red and green wires between relays.
17. Connect adapter harness wire (Figure 14, 4) to coolant fan fuse S42.
18. Connect adapter harness wire (Figure 14, 5) to second speed coolant fan fuse S104.
Tip: Interchanging wires 4 and 5 does not affect function.
19. Connect adapter harness wire (Figure 15, 3 [purple]) to ground. Remove nut, add 6mm washer, install wire (3) and nut.
20. Stow relays of adapter harness such that they cannot be damaged.
21. Open connector T4C.
22. Cut through wire T4C/1.
23. Use connector to connect adapter harness wire (Figure 19, 2 [purple]) to both T4C/1 wires.
24. Connect battery. Installation is performed in the reverse sequence.
Function check
1. Start the engine.
2. Set air conditioner to LOW and then press the AUTO button. If the radiator fans start up, the adapter harness is installed correctly.
Procedures after connecting battery
1. Activate automatic open/close function of electric windows.
2. Set clock.
3. Read the fault memory of all control units and erase if necessary.
Tip: After reconnecting the battery, the ESP warning lamp may remain lit until the vehicle has been driven a few meters.
