Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 48 number 09-02 dated February 18, 2009 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
CONDITION
^ Electric steering column adjustment does not work or adjustment movement is restricted.
^ Incorrect operation of Easy Entry according to TSB 2014138 can be ruled out. It is unlikely that external forces have led to the loss of the stored end positions of the adjustment movement.
The seat adjustments can be used to maintain the minimum recommended distance from the steering wheel (10 inches) in case of airbag deployment.
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
In case external forces can be ruled out, the steering column may be under tension because of unfavorable tolerances of steering column and module cross carrier. As a result, the current draw of the regulator motors is above specification and the electric steering column adjustment fails.
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
Additional checks are executed in production and modification performed, if necessary.
