Right Flange Shaft Seal and Bearing J

• Thrust Plate (VW 401)
• Thrust Plate (VW 402)
• Punch (VW 407)
• Thrust Disc (VW 412)
• Extractor Lever (VW 681)
• Driving Sleeve (32 - 109)
• Press Tube (2040)
• Thrust Piece (T10387)
Procedure
- Remove the right flange shaft.
- Remove securing ring - arrow A - for the ball bearing.
Removing shaft seal
- Press the flange shaft out of mounting bracket for the flange shaft as shown in the illustration.
- Pull flange shaft seal out of mounting bracket using (VW 681).
Remove Bearing J (ball bearing for the right flange shaft)
- Press the ball bearing out of mounting bracket.
Install Bearing J (ball bearing for the right flange shaft)
- Press new ball bearing into mounting bracket.
Installing Shaft Seal
- Coat the outer edge and the sealing lip on the shaft seal with axle oil.
• Installation position: Open side of shaft seal faces transmission.
• Do not angle shaft seal when driving in.
- Install the new seal for the right flange shaft evenly using the (T10387) until the thrust piece locks.
• Production drive-in depth 5.5 mm below cover surface.
• Repair drive-in depth 6.5 mm, using of the thrust piece (T10387), in order to make sure that the new shaft seal does not cover the old running surface of the worn flange shaft.
- Press the mounting bracket with the ball bearing onto flange shaft.
- Insert the circlip - A -.
- Install the right flange shaft.
- Check the gear oil level in the front final drive.
