Gear oil in transfer case, topping off after repair 09L, 6 Speed A/T
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Drip tray V.A.G 1306
^ Safety glasses
Test conditions
^ Gear oil temperature at approx. 20°C (room temperature).
^ The cover was removed from transfer case and all gear oil was thereby drained.
Test sequence
- To ensure vehicle is absolutely level, drive onto a 4-column lifting platform or over a service pit.
- Place drip tray V.A.G 1306 underneath transmission.
CAUTION!
Wear eye protection.
- Remove inspection plug - arrow -.
Note:
^ The engine must not be started and the vehicle must not be towed if there is no gear oil in the transmission!
- Slowly and evenly fill transfer case with gear oil over a period of at least 5 minutes.
Note:
^ A filling time of at least 5 minutes is required so that the internal oil level between the self-locking center differential and oil fill space can equalize.
^ Sealing plug with sealing ring must be replaced.
- Tighten new sealing plug to 35 Nm.
Note:
^ It is not necessary to check the oil level again at this stage.
