Front Brakes Assembly Overview, PR 1LJ, 1LL, 1LM and 1LK
• Always install complete repair set.
• After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
• Check brake caliper for ease of movement by moving it sideways.
When siphoning brake fluid, always use a bleeder bottle that is used exclusively for brake fluid. Brake fluid is poisonous. NEVER siphon brake fluid with your mouth!
1 - Brake Pads
• Wear limit, refer to => [ Brakes ] Brakes.
• The inner surface (with tension spring) is equipped with a cable for wear indicator.
• The backing plate of the outer brake pad is equipped with an adhesive film. Peel off the protective foil before installing.
• Before installing the brake pads, clean the pad guide surface and coat it with a film of Polycarbamide grease.
• Note different versions.
• Must always be replaced together on both sides of vehicle.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Pads ] Front Brakes, PR 1LJ, 1LL, 1LM and 1LK.
• Before installing new brake pads, thoroughly clean the brake calipers of contaminants (grease-free). When doing so, pay particular attention to removing any remaining adhesive foil on outer brake pad contact surfaces.
2 - Brake Carrier
• Bolt to wheel bearing housing
3 - Bolt
• 190 Nm
• If using again, clean the ribs.
• M14 × 1.5 x 38
4 - Bushing
• Insert in brake caliper housing.
5 - Guide Pins
Torque specification: 30 Nm
6 - Cap
• Remove
• Hook in the cable for wear indicator.
7 - Brake Disc
• Wear limit, refer to => [ Brakes ] Brakes.
• Must always be replaced together on both sides of vehicle.
• Remove brake caliper before removing.
• Coat contact surfaces between brake disc and wheel hub with polycarbamide grease G 052 142 A2.
• Brake disc allocation, refer to => [ Brakes ] Brakes.
8 - Wheel Bolts
9 - Brake Line Connection to Brake Line
• Torque specification: 12 Nm
10 - Brake Line
• Install in the brake caliper housing.
• Screwed together with brake hose, held against the hex nut of the brake hose.
• Hose must be installed free of twists.
• Make sure that lugs are properly seated in grooves in bracket.
11 - Brake Line in Brake Caliper
• Torque specification: 19 Nm
12 - Bracket
• Bolt to brake caliper housing.
• Hook in brake line.
13 - Bracket Bolt
• Tightening specification: 25 Nm
14 - Brake Caliper
• When doing work, do not allow to hang from brake hose, rather suspend it from the body using bundling wire.
• Except for => [ Brake Pads ] Front Brakes, PR 1LJ, 1LL, 1LM and 1LK and => [ Front Brake Caliper Assembly Overview, 2FNR 42 AL ] Front Brake Caliper Assembly Overview, 2FNR 42 AL, no other repairs should be performed on brake caliper.
• Install hose so it is not twisted.
• Brake allocation, refer to => [ Brakes ] Brakes.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Caliper ] Front Brakes, PR 1LJ, 1LL, 1LM and 1LK.
15 - Retaining Spring
• Observe correct installed position.
• After hooking into both studs, the retaining spring must be pressed under the brake carrier. If improperly installed, the wear of the outer brake pad cannot be adjusted, thereby increasing brake pedal travel.
