Install in reverse sequence; note the following points:
- Observe all repair notes => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.
• Clean ATF lines and ATF cooler before installing a replacement transmission => [ ATF Lines and Cooler, Cleaning ] ATF Lines and Cooler, Cleaning.
• When performing repairs, replace self-locking nuts and bolts.
• Replace bolts which have a specified tightening angle, as well as seals and gaskets.
• Heat shield sleeves must be installed in their original positions.
• Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory.
• All cable ties must be installed in their original positions.
Tightening specifications
- Before installing transmission make sure the torque converter is correctly installed in the transmission.
Installation dimension:
Check installation dimension of torque converter before installing transmission => [ Installation dimension ] Torque Converter, Installing.
CAUTION!
If the torque converter is not properly installed, the drive lugs on the torque converter and the ATF pump will be severely damaged when the transmission is attached to the engine.
- Before installing the transmission, make sure alignment sleeves - A - are correctly positioned on the cylinder block, if necessary install.
- If an intermediate plate was equipped between the engine and transmission, reinstall it in the same position.
- Before guiding together the engine and transmission, turn torque converter and engine drive plate so that one hole and one threaded hole are at the level of the removed starter opening.
- Make sure that no wires become pinched when connecting the engine and transmission.
Note the following when installing the transmission.
CAUTION!
Before and during fastening the bolts of the engine/transmission flange, check that the torque converter can still be turned behind the drive plate. If the torque converter cannot be turned, it must be assumed that it has not been installed properly and that the drive plate of the torque converter or the ATF pump will be destroyed during final tightening of the bolts.
- Fasten transmission to engine.
- Raise engine/transmission farther.
- Tighten transmission crossmember.
• The tightening specifications apply only to lightly greased, oiled, phosphated, or black-finished nuts and bolts.
• Additional lubricant such as engine or gear oil may be used, but do not use lubricants that contain graphite.
• Do not use degreased parts.
• Tolerance for tightening specification ± 15%.
- Insert the guide pins of adapter (T40058) so that the large diameter - arrow 1 - faces toward the engine. The small diameter - arrow 2 - faces toward the adapter.
- To tighten the torque converter bolts, counterhold the crankshaft with adapter (T40058).
• Pay no attention to - arrow -.
- Always use new original bolts to secure the torque converter to the drive plate.
- Install 3 bolts - arrow - of the torque converter in the opening of the removed starter hand-tight at first (turn crankshaft 1/3 revolution further for each bolt).
- Then, tighten the bolts of the torque converter to the specified torque (turn crankshaft 1/3 revolution further for each bolt).
- Install tunnel crossmember.
- Install left lower coolant pipe.
- Install ATF lines => [ ATF Lines and Cooler Assembly Overview ] Removal and Replacement.
- Adjust selector lever cable => [ Selector Lever Cable, Checking and Adjusting ] Procedures.
- Install front transmission supports with transmission mount => [ Transmission Supports and Front Transmission Mount ] Transmission Supports and Front Transmission Mount.
- Tighten driveshaft on transmission.
- Install exhaust system so it is free of stress.
- Install front crossmember.
- Install starter.
- Install right engine support with engine mount.
- Install engine carrier.
- Install subframe.
- Install stabilizer bar.
- Bolt on drive axles to transmission drive flanges.
- Install crossmember on subframe.
- Install ATF cooler and ATF lines => [ ATF Lines and Cooler Assembly Overview ] Removal and Replacement.
- Install strut tower.
- Electrical connections and routing.
- Check gear oil level in front final drive => [ Gear Oil in Front Final Drive, Filling after Repair ] Gear Oil In Front Final Drive, Filling After Repair.
- Check gear oil level in transfer case => [ Transfer Case Gear Oil Level, Checking ] Transfer Case Gear Oil Level, Checking.
- Observe procedures for connecting battery.
- Check ATF level in planetary gearing => [ ATF, Checking Level and Correcting ] ATF, Checking Level and Correcting.
