Drive Belt: Testing and Inspection
Power Steering Pump Belt Pulley and Air Conditioning Compressor Belt Pulley, Checking Alignment
• To prevent damage to the ribbed belt, the alignment of the air conditioning compressor and power steering pump belt pulleys must be checked.
After changing any of the following components, the alignment of the belt pulleys must be checked.
• Power-steering pump
• Bracket for power steering pump
• A/C Compressor
• Bracket for air conditioning compressor
• Oil pan (upper section)
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Alignment gauge (3201)
Test Sequence
• Ribbed belt removed.
- Place alignment gauge (3201) on ribbed belt pulley of A/C compressor.
- Determine center point of the power steering pump shaft by axially moving the pump shaft back and forth.
• The ribbed belt pulley for power steering pump must be aligned at the center point with that of the belt pulley for air conditioning compressor.
If ribbed belt pulleys do not align:
- Remove bolts - arrows - for power steering pump belt pulley.
• Installation position: Protrusion - 1 - on ribbed belt pulley faces in direction of travel.
- Align the offset of the power steering pump belt pulley - 2 - to the air conditioning compressor belt pulley using shims - 3 - of various thicknesses. Part No.
- Fasten bolt - 1 -.
- To finish, verify the alignment of the ribbed belt pulleys using the alignment gauge (3201). Readjust if necessary.
