• T8 screwdriver (T40056 A)
Removing
Follow safety precautions when working on knee airbag.
- Remove driver's storage compartment.
- Adjust steering wheel downward and to rear as far as possible, use entire adjustment range of steering column adjustment for this.
Contrary to the procedure described in "Battery, disconnecting and connecting", the ignition must be on and remain on while disconnecting the battery when working on airbag components.
- Remove airbag unit.
- Remove steering wheel.
- Remove bolts - 3 - and - 5 - using (T40056 A).
- Remove the TORX bolts - 6 - and the hex socket head bolt - 4 -.
- Separate top trim - 2 - for steering column switches from bottom trim - 1 - and remove both parts.
- Remove bolt - 2 -.
- Disconnect electrical connectors - 1 - and - 3 -.
- Disconnect electrical connector - 4 -.
Before disconnecting connector, discharge any electrostatic charge from your body by touching an electrically grounded vehicle component such as the door latch striker pin.
- Press catch - 1 - in - direction of arrow - until harness connector - 2 - disengages.
- Carefully pull off steering column switch together with Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527).
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
- Make sure all connectors are properly engaged.
- Insert top trim piece for steering column switch into catches of bottom trim piece, press together and bolt.
- Install driver's storage compartment.
- Install steering wheel.
- Install airbag unit.
