Rear Bumper






Rear Bumper


On vehicles with lane change assist (Audi side assist), observe the following.

If rear bumper is removed and re-installed or changes are made to bumper, lane change assist (Audi side assist) calibration is necessary.






1 Cover

Removing

Remove the luggage compartment trim panel..

Disconnect the parking aid sensor at control module (under tail light, left side) connectors if necessary.

Remove the cap nuts - 6 - from the luggage compartment.

Remove all screws in cover area at wheel housing liner and from lower spoiler.

Unclip side pieces on sides of guide piece.

Remove cover toward back.

If the vehicle has trim strips in the cover, then it is necessary to remove the cover beforehand.

To remove, remove screws - 9 -.

Removing The Trim Strips






- Remove the rear cover.

- Push the catches upward and remove the trim strip from the cover in steps.

Bolting Points

- To remove, remove all screws and nuts, unclip at left and right from guide parts and remove cover toward rear.

To remove spoiler, remove cover.

Unclip spoiler in stages from cover.

Revised Distance Between The Holes For The Bumper Mount

The distance between the threaded taps has been shortened on new bumpers (beginning approximately March 20, 2006).

On older vehicles with the longer space between holes, it is necessary to drill an additional hole having the same diameter to match the space between the thread taps in the rear lid end piece.

- Measure the distance between the thread taps on the new part.

- Drill a hole - arrow - into the rear lid end piece to match the space between the thread taps as illustrated.






- Apply anti-corrosion protection to the edges of the hole.

- Seal off the old hole with a plug - 1 - or with protective film.

- Install the bumper.

Guide Piece For Bumper

Pressed into side panel.

3 Guide Piece

When installing, insert front guide piece over threaded pin on side panel and secure with nut - 1 -. secure.

Follow screw - 4 - tightening sequence.

4 Bolt

Tighten screws from back to front and from top to bottom.

Rear Spoiler, Removing and Installing

Removal:

- Remove the tail lamp inside the bumper.

- Remove the trailer hitch cover.

- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 4 -.

- Remove the clip from the guide piece with a screwdriver and remove the spoiler.

- Starting in the middle, remove the spoiler from the bumper cover in stages.

- Disconnect the connectors.

- Remove the spoiler forward from the cover.

Installing:

- Position the spoiler and insert it straight into the center.

- Connect the connectors.

- Align the spoiler and insert it into the cover.

- Install the cover starting from the center and working outward.

- The left and right hook on the outside must engage.

- Attach the spoiler to the wheel housing liners.

- Install the tail lamp into the bumpers.

- Install the trailer hitch cover.

Removing The Trailer Hitch Cover

Turn the locking flange 90° to the left and remove the cover.

To install, first insert the rear cover into the opening, fold it forward and lock it into the springs with the locking flanges.

After locking the locking flanges, make sure the slot position is the same.

4 Retaining Spring

Removing The Tail Lamp Inside The Bumper

- Remove the cover - 2 - and remove the screw - 3 -.






- Pull the tail lamp - 1 - out of the bumper and disconnect the connector.

- Tighten the screw to 3.5 Nm.

Removing The Spoiler






- Remove the clip from the guide with a screwdriver and remove the spoiler - 2 - from the cover - 1 -.

Disconnecting The Connector






- Remove the spoiler - 3 - from the cover - 1 - and disconnect the connector - 2 -.

Impact Member, Removing






1 Side Impact Bar

Bumper cover removed.

4 Bracket

To remove, remove screws - 3 - from impact member.

Vehicle With Trailer Hitch

Carrier and trailer hitch are one piece and can only be replaced together.
