Backrest Adjustment Motors (V45)/(V46)

Removing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components General Safety Precautions ] .

- Remove the backrest. Refer to => [ Front Backrest ] Front Backrest.

- Create photos or sketches of wire securing and routing.

- Disconnect connector - 5 - at backrest adjustment motor - 1 -.

- Pull cover - 3 - and anti-squeak fleece - 2 - aside.

- Remove the bolt - 4 -.

- On backrest motor side, pry out spring washer - 1 - with a screwdriver.

- Tap shaft - 2 - through the side of the backrest frame using a hammer and drift punch.

- Remove shaft - 2 - from the backrest frame far enough so that the seat forward/back adjustment motor can be removed.

Installing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components General Safety Precautions ] .

- Using a screwdriver, turn the anti-twist mechanism of splines - 1 - so that it aligns with the backrest frame shaft.

- Slide shaft through backrest adjustment motor and backrest frame.

- Place a wood block - 1 - under shaft on side opposite of backrest adjustment motor.

- Drive spring washer - 2 - onto shaft - 3 - using a socket insert (11 mm) - 1 -.

- Install screw on backrest adjustment motor and tighten to specified tightening specification shown in => [ Front Seat Backrest Adjustment Motors Overview ] Front Seat Backrest Adjustment Motors Overview.

- Connect connector to backrest adjustment motor.

Further installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, but observe the following:

- Cut threads in backrest frame before installing new screws - 3 - (quantity: 4).

- Replace screws - 3 - (quantity: 4) after each removal.

Before handling airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the harness connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Route and secure wiring according to photos or sketches that were made.

- Ensure all connectors are engaged correctly.

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Make sure the wires do not get caught.

Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. Maintain personal safety when connecting the battery by staying out of airbag deployment areas, keeping a distance from belt tensioners/seat belts and ensuring no other people are in the vehicle interior at the moment when the battery is connected.

- Switch on ignition.

- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.

- If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

Tightening specification, refer to => [ Front Backrest ] Front Backrest.
