Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 66 number 08-12 dated December 2, 2008 for reasons listed below.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

CONDITION

Wind noises come from the door mirror when traveling at high speeds.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

A gap between the mirror triangle and the outer window channel strip (trim strip) on the driver or passenger side causes wind noises (Figure 1).

The cause of the gap is a kinked mirror base plate seal positioned too far on the inside (Figure 2).

The seal should be on the outer window channel strip (trim strip).

PRODUCTION SOLUTION

Measures to close the gap and to better position the mirror base plate seal are in preparation.

SERVICE

Check the points of contact between the mirror triangle and the trim strip for gaps.

If necessary, realign the mirror base plate seal. As an additional measure, a rubber strip can be placed underneath the seal to increase the tension and prevent slipping and kinking.

If the noises are very loud, use masking tape to secure the cut-out sections on the mirror triangle (Figure 3).
