Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 85 number 09-01 dated November 17, 2009 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

Condition

On 2-zone climate system Audi Q7 vehicles, the cooling air grill in the door panel is out of adjustment. When the door is closed, the gap between the door and the cooling air grill on the B-pillar trim is too great. The resultant gap allows cooling air from the climate system to escape, and the customer can feel a cool draft in that area.

Technical Background

The locking wedges that hold the grill into the door panel don't secure the grill in position. The grill can then move further into the door panel, creating a gap.

Production Solution

Optimized securing process.

Service

1. Open the door and pull out the upper wedges (Figure 3, Point 3) and the lower wedges (Figure 3, Point 4) about 3 cm. A screwdriver may be needed.

2. Pull the cooling air grill (Figure 3, Point 2) out of the duct (Figure 3, Point 8). Leave the wedges in the duct.

3. After removing the vent, apply bonder D 180 KU1 A1 with Hand Cartridge Gun VAS 5155 on the upper locking tabs (Figure 3, Point 5) and the lower locking tabs (Figure 3, Point 6). Make sure that a flat beading is created over the complete length of these tabs and over the locking tangs (Figure 3, Point 7).

4. After the bonder application, push the cooling air grill back into the duct. Make sure that the bonder does not get on any visible parts and that the cooling air grill is not fully pushed in.

5. Adjust the cooling air grill depth such that there is no gap between the cooling air grills on the door and B pillar.

6. Push in the upper wedges (Figure 3, Point 3) and lower wedges (Figure 3, Point 4), and lock in the cooling air grill position. With the door closed, check that there is no gap between the cooling air grills. Readjust if necessary.

The drying time of the bonder is 1 hour.
