Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 07-44 dated Oct. 16, 2007 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
Condition
This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle:
Customer is complaining about interruption every 2-3 seconds when playing a CD.
In more severe cases, the MMI system may malfunction: sound dropouts, all CD changer LEDs blinking, IP cluster center display information flickering, sporadically no tester communication with MMI components, etc.
NOTE: Only the MP3-capable CD changer (4E0 035 110 A, 4L0 035 110) with SW Version 0270 is affected.
This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect until June 1, 2010. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.
Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:
- Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the I9 code in the Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.
- Vehicle must be within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
- Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.
- Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in dealer inventory prior to sale.
Technical Background
The component protection of the CD changer is enabled. Root cause is the calculation of a faulty checksum in the CDC during initialization, or the CD changer was replaced and the component protection not disabled.
In more severe cases, the internal flash memory might be corrupted.
Production Solution
Software improvement introduced - SW 0350.
Warranty
The system automatically enters parts and labor applicable to the above-listed code.
If a vehicle cannot be corrected or reached
Pick a code from the list below to best describe the reason why the vehicle cannot be corrected or reached. Enter the code into the system.
- I920 Customer Refused Repairs
- I930 Total Loss
- I940 Vehicle Stolen
- I950 Vehicle Exported
If the vehicle is outside of the specified warranty period
The customer has the option to pay for the repair.
- If the customer agrees to pay for the repair:
- The dealer should enter a I910 (no pay) claim into the warranty system.This will close the code out of ElsaWeb.
- In this claim, the dealer should note the actual repair order number and date of repair in the comment lines.
- If the customer does not agree to pay for the repair:
The dealer should enter a I920 (no pay) claim into the warranty system to indicate that the customer has refused the repair.
Required Parts and Tools
- Destroy and properly dispose of removed parts in accordance with local, state and federal/provincial environmental regulations.
- If you have exhausted your allocated parts and you require additional parts for vehicles affected by this RVU but have exceeded your Upper Order Limit,Be sure to include the affected VINs with your order. Prior to submitting your request, ensure that each vehicle has the I9 code open in ElsaWeb. Your order will be reviewed and processed accordingly.
