Affected Vehicles
Condition
This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle:
The instrument cluster center display may not correctly exhibit some of the symbols when the navigation system is switched on.
This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect until January 13, 2010. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.
Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:
- Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the I8 code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.
- Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.
- Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.
- Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in dealer inventory prior to sale.
Technical Background
Instrument cluster software compatibility issue between the navigation system and adaptive cruise control (ACC).
Production Solution
New instrument cluster (J285) software resolves the problem.
Service
1. Check software part number and software version of instrument cluster (J285).
2. Flash the instrument cluster (J285) using SVM action code as listed in the table.
TIP: The SVM Process must be completed in its entirety so the database receives the update confirmation response. A warranty claim may not be reimbursed if there is no confirmation response to support the claim
3. If flash process stops partway or does not finish, repeat SVM flash. If flash cannot be completed, please call the Technical Assistance Center.
4. Check the date and time. The flash process may change the date and time in the instrument cluster. If necessary, reset the date and time.

If a vehicle cannot be corrected or reached
Pick a code from the list below to best describe the reason why the vehicle cannot be corrected or reached. Enter the code into the system.
- I820 Customer Refused Repairs
- I830 Total Loss
- I840 Vehicle Stolen
- I850 Vehicle Exported
If the vehicle is outside of the specified warranty period
The customer has the option to pay for the repair.
- If the customer agrees to pay for the repair: The dealer should enter a I810 (no pay) claim into the warranty system. This will close the code out of ElsaWeb. In this claim, the dealer should note the actual repair order number and date of repair in the comment lines.
- If the customer does not agree to pay for the repair: The dealer should enter a I820 (no pay) claim into the warranty system to indicate that the customer has refused the repair.
