Backrest Cover and Upholstery

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Upholstery Clip Pliers (V.A.G 1634)

Separating Cover And Padding From Backrest Frame

Removing

- Remove the seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat, 2nd Row ] Bench Seat, 2nd Row.

- Remove LATCH caps. Refer to => [ LATCH Cap, 2nd and 3rd Row Seats ] LATCH Cap, 2nd and 3rd Row Seats.

- Remove seat cushion. Refer to => [ Seat Cushion ] Seat Cushion.

- Remove the seat heating connector.

- Remove left side trim. Refer to => [ Left Side Trim Panel, Outer Part ] Left Side Trim Panel, Outer Part.

- Remove lower left trim on rear side. Refer to => [ Lower Left Rear Side Trim Panel ] Lower Left Rear Side Trim Panel.

- Loosely attach center belt. Refer to => [ Center 2nd Row Three-Point Seat Belt Assembly Overview ] Center 2nd Row Three-Point Seat Belt Assembly Overview.

- Remove the handle (entry assistance). Refer to => [ Entry Assistance Handle ] Entry Assistance Handle.

- Remove the trim (entry assistance). Refer to => [ Entry Assistance Trim ] Entry Assistance Trim.

- Remove headrest cover. Refer to => [ Outer Headrest Cover ] Outer Headrest Cover.

- Remove the headrests. Refer to => [ Outer Headrest Assembly Overview ] Outer Headrest Assembly Overview.

- Remove center belt trim. Refer to => [ Center Belt Trim Panel ] Center Belt Trim Panel.

- Fold up center seat.






- Remove fastening strips - 2 -.

- Remove side airbag - 1 -. Refer to => [ Driver Side and Passenger Side Rear Side Airbag Igniter N201 and N202 ] Driver Side and Passenger Side Rear Side Airbag Igniter N201 and N202.

- Remove the bolt - 2 -.






- Loosen the airbag cable brackets on the backrest frame.

- Press airbag - 1 - in - direction of arrow A - upward out of backrest frame.

- Remove airbag - 1 - from pocket and re-engage airbag in backrest frame.

- Remove cover and padding.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Tightening Specifications

Airbag screw, refer to => [ (Item 12) Side Airbag ] Backrest Cover and Padding.

Center seat belt screw, refer to => [ (Item 7) Center Seat Belt ] Backrest Cover and Padding.

Removing

- Cut the upholstery clips - 2 -.






- Remove the cover - 1 - from cushion - 3 -.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- When installing new upholstery clips, use (V.A.G 1634).
