Rear Suspension (AWD)
Subframe, removing and installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Brake pedal actuator V.A.G 1869/2
^ Insert Tool T10212
Removing
Note:
^ If subframe is replaced, axle alignment should be performed after installation.
^ Only if subframe is replaced: remove and install Level Control System Sensor.
- With vehicles with air suspension, place vehicle on hoist.
- Remove wheels.
- Remove rear portion of exhaust system.
- Disconnect all electrical wires from body to rear axle.
Vehicles with air suspension
- Clean area around wiring connection.
- Remove left and air supply line and seal off connections. Ensure no dust particles enter connections.
Continuation for all vehicles
- Remove brake cable from rear axle.
- Remove drive shaft from rear final drive and tie up.
- Remove left and right brake caliper - 1 - and tie it with an wire - 2 - at brake line bracket -3-.
- If equipped, remove stone impact protection from subframe.
CAUTION!
Before loosening subframe bolts, secure vehicle against tipping over (e.g. load luggage compartment with approx. 50 kg).
- Attach both Supports VAS 6131/13-1 and VAS 6131/13-2 from Basic Set VAS 6131/13 on Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131.
- Support subframe with Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131.
- Support rear of subframe so that front screw from stabilizer bar bracket is located in center of Mount VAS 6131/13-2 - arrow -.
- Mark position of cross member on body using felt-tip pen.
- Remove left and right bolts - arrows - from cross member.
- Secure subframe.
- Remove bolts - arrows - for subframe.
- Lower scissor raise table slightly and remove breather line from final drive breather tube.
- Slowly lower subframe.
Installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal. Observe:
- Tighten subframe using old bolts. They have to be replaced with new bolts following wheel alignment.
- Tighten old bolts to specified torque without additional tightening.
- After installation, a vehicle alignment must be performed.
- Adjust parking brake.
- On vehicles with air suspension, position vehicle on wheels.
- Tighten wheels.
- On vehicles with automatic headlamp range control, perform headlamp basic setting.
